Lead Cable Technician

A Data Cabling Technician installs, maintains, and repairs the physical network infrastructure that connects computers, phones, and security systems. They run, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cables in homes and businesses, ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity while adhering to industry building codes.
Core Responsibilities

• Cabling & Infrastructure:
  Pull, route, and secure structured cabling (e.g., CAT5e, CAT6, fiber optics) through walls, ceilings, and cable trays.
• Termination & Setup:
  Terminate cables at patch panels, jacks, and distribution frames. Build out IT closets and mount network hardware like switches and wireless access points
• Testing & Troubleshooting:
  Use advanced testing equipment (like Fluke testers or OTDRs) to verify signal performance, test for cable faults, and resolve connectivity issues.
• Documentation:
  Read blueprints and schematics, and keep accurate records of cable layouts, pathways, and "as-built" documentation.

Compliance:
Ensure all installations strictly meet local building codes, telecommunication standards, and OSHA safety regulations.

  Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, data networks, and fiber optic technologies. Familiarity with industry requirements (e.g., BICSI standards) is highly preferred.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
