Legal Assistant – Grand Rapids

Garan Lucow Miller is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Legal Assistant to support our attorneys specializing in insurance defense litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced legal environment, with a strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and case management systems.

Qualified legal assistants will have experience in multiple of the following:

• Preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence
• Filing documents electronically with state and federal courts (e-filing)
• Managing attorney calendars, schedule hearings, depositions, and client meetings
• Maintaining case files and organize discovery materials
• Drafting basic correspondence and assist in document preparation for trial
• Communicating with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and experts
• Tracking deadlines and monitor case progress through litigation lifecycle
• Performing time entry, billing assistance, and expense reporting

Hiring Criteria

• 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant (
  insurance defense experience is preferred )
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and legal case management software (e.g., Clio, Pro Law, or similar)
• Familiarity with court rules and procedures, including electronic filing systems
