JOB SUMMARY

The Picking Supervisor is responsible for leading daytime picking operations to ensure efficient, safe, and accurate order fulfillment. This role oversees picking workflows, labor allocation, and material movement while supervising a team of warehouse associates to meet service level, quality, and safety standards.

This position will initially support 3rd shift operations for onboarding, training, and business continuity for up to six (6) months following hire. After this period, the role will transition to 1st shift picking operations leadership.

Warehouse at Hex Armor Headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise, train, and mentor picking associates, ensuring commitment to shipping 98% of orders within SLA and achieving 99.7% order accuracy with zero quality issues.
  • Oversee daily picking workflows including order selection, staging, and handoff to packing and shipping teams.
  • Coordinate labor allocation and workload balancing across picking zones to optimize productivity and accuracy.
  • Direct and monitor material handling activities, including replenishment and pallet movement to support picking operations.
  • Ensure all forklift operations supporting picking are performed safely, by certified operators, and in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
  • Analyze picking workflows and labor utilization and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Partner with inventory control to ensure product availability and accurate stock levels to support outbound order requirements.
  • Conduct quality and safety audits related to picking accuracy, equipment use, and warehouse organization.
  • Ensure all picking transactions and inventory movements are accurately recorded in the warehouse management system (Korber).
  • Support shipping coordination by ensuring picked orders are staged accurately and on time to meet carrier and dock schedules.
  • Enforce safety protocols, housekeeping standards, and equipment inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Prepare shift reports on productivity, picking accuracy, safety incidents, and team performance for leadership review.
  • Collaborate with warehouse leadership across shifts to resolve issues and ensure seamless warehouse operations.
  • During the initial onboarding period, provide leadership support for 3rd shift picking and outbound activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree in logistics, business, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of warehouse operations experience, with 1+ year in a supervisory or lead role, preferred.
  • Experience leading picking or order fulfillment operations strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience overseeing forklift and material handling operations; forklift certification or ability to obtain certification required.
  • Proficient in warehouse management systems and Microsoft Office Suite; shipping software experience a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
  • Solid understanding of warehouse safety practices and OSHA compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish), preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
