Objective
:
The Coil/Die Setter is responsible for maintaining efficient coil changeovers and die setups to support stamping operations. This includes staging coils and dies, assisting with press setups, and ensuring smooth production flow. The Coil/Die Setter performs duties in an exemplary manner to optimize departmental performance in accordance with company quality and safety policies.

Qualified Candidates Will Possess The Following

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience in a stamping or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to receive and maintain valid P&C Hi‑Lo and crane license
  • Familiarity with die setting, coil feeders, or similar manufacturing systems is desired (Minimum requirements are updated annually to meet the demands of various positions; employees hired prior to the latest revision update may not meet all current requirements.)
  • Proven ability to assist with managing projects and resources effectively, including detailed documentation on tooling issues and component prints
  • Excellent problem‑solving and trouble‑shooting skills
  • Ability to pass written and practical tests to obtain company Hi‑Lo and crane license
  • Proven mechanical inclination, general math and manufacturing knowledge, and trouble‑shooting skills through standardized assessments
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • An excellent work record, including attendance
Essential Functions Standard Work
  • Stage dies and coils for upcoming press changeovers.
  • Remove and install stamping dies in presses according to setup sheets and schedules.
  • Assist in threading coils through the feeder to the press.
  • Verify stock alignment and flatness.
  • Verify coil type, size, and alignment to match the production router or job traveler.
  • Safely operate cranes and forklifts to transport coils and tooling.
  • Perform preliminary checks of dies and press areas before starting up.
  • Document die setups, coil usage, and any setup delays or issues.
  • Assist operators during press setup and startup to ensure quality part production.
  • Verify inventory is correct in department.
  • Assist or perform material handling responsibilities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed from supervisor.
Continuous Improvement/Lean Principles
  • Reduce press downtime by improving changeover speed and accuracy.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles such as quick setup, error‑proofing, and standardized work.
  • Identify and attempt to eliminate areas of waste for better efficiency and overall production needs.
  • Participate in, and support lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events and problem solving events, identifying and eliminating all types of waste.
  • Suggest and implement ideas to increase personal and departmental efficiency. Communicate potential cost savings to other Technicians and Team Leaders.
  • Participate in 8D and 5‑Why problem solving teams, Plan‑Do‑Check‑Act (PDCA) events, die improvement reviews, and die reviews.
Quality
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure dies are seated and aligned correctly.
  • Inspect dies and coils for visible defects prior to installation.
  • Communicate any die/tooling damage or quality issues to tooling and quality departments.
Safety/5S
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in die and coil staging areas.
  • Safely use hi‑lo and cranes, maintaining licenses, maintenance schedules, and inspection sheets. Use overhead crane to dry run dies, checking for interference between upper and lower die shoes. If interference is found, notify Die Technicians at lower levels of the inaccuracy immediately so the interference can be adjusted accordingly.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), controls, safety devices, lock‑out/tag‑out, use of coolants, and die block procedures. Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate action. Ensure environment is free of avoidable risks, and report concerns immediately, taking appropriate action to immediately rectify and resolve.
  • Organize and maintain personal work area and tool room per 5S standards. Notify Team Leader if repair or replacement of machinery or equipment is needed.
