Position Overview
A growing precision machining manufacturer serving the aerospace, medical, and commercial industries is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Process Engineer to support advanced Swiss machining operations. This individual will be responsible for programming, process development, machining optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives across a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive Swiss lathe programming experience, strong process engineering capabilities, and a passion for continuous improvement.
This role offers the opportunity to directly influence manufacturing efficiency, quality, productivity, and operational performance while working with advanced CNC technology and complex precision components.
Compensation: $75,000 – $110,000 Base Salary (Depending on Experience)
Schedule: C-Shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday | 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
- Program and set up Swiss-style CNC lathes utilizing Esprit CAD/CAM software
- Develop and optimize machining processes for complex precision components
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, feeds, and speeds to maximize efficiency and quality
- Create and maintain machining documentation, setup instructions, and process standards
- Support new product introductions through process development and validation
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity improvements, cycle time reductions, cost reduction, waste elimination, and process consistency
- Analyze production performance and implement corrective actions when necessary
- Drive operational efficiencies throughout the machining process
- Continuously evaluate manufacturing methods and identify opportunities for optimization
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process-related issues
- Provide hands-on support to operators and production personnel
- Minimize downtime through proactive problem-solving and process refinement
- Assist with setup verification and process validation activities
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications and customer requirements
- Support quality initiatives within highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Ensure adherence to aerospace and medical manufacturing standards
- Train and mentor machine operators on machining processes, setup procedures, and best practices
- Increase operator knowledge and technical competency
- Support continuous learning and process consistency throughout the production team
This position supports advanced Swiss machining operations including:
- Citizen L20 Series Swiss Lathes
- Citizen L32 Series Swiss Lathes
- Nakamura-Tome Turning Centers
- Minimum 3 years of experience programming Swiss CNC lathes
- Experience utilizing Esprit CAD/CAM software
- Strong understanding of machining principles and process development
- Ability to independently develop and optimize machining processes
- Strong GD&T and blueprint reading capabilities
- Experience troubleshooting machining and tooling issues
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience with in aerospace manufacturing environments
- Experience with in medical device manufacturing environments
- Continuous improvement or process engineering experience
- Experience training and mentoring machine operators
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO-regulated manufacturing environments
