Industrial Painter
This role focuses on preparing and painting steel weldments using professional spray equipment in an industrial environment. You will perform detailed surface preparation, apply industrial coatings, and maintain painting tools and equipment while working an evening shift schedule from Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 2:30 AM.
Responsibilities- Retrieve required industrial parts and components from designated staging areas to support daily production schedules.
- Clean, sand, grind, and prepare complex steel weldments and other metal components for priming and final finish coating.
- Use hand tools and other equipment to remove contaminants, smooth surfaces, and ensure proper adhesion of coatings.
- Apply a variety of industrial surface coatings evenly using professional spray guns and related spray equipment.
- Operate and monitor paint booths and associated finishing systems to achieve consistent, high-quality finishes.
- Verify measurements by reading, interpreting, and accurately understanding precise units of measure for coating thickness and mixing ratios.
- Mix coatings according to specified formulas and ensure correct viscosity and application characteristics.
- Clean, troubleshoot, and maintain spray guns, paint booths, and supporting finishing tools to keep equipment in safe, reliable working condition.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices for handling coatings, tools, and equipment in an industrial setting.
- Inspect finished work for quality, identify defects or inconsistencies, and make necessary adjustments or touch-ups.
- Hands-on experience using paint sprayers in an industrial or similar environment.
- Experience sanding metal or similar materials as part of surface preparation.
- Ability to perform detailed paint prep, including cleaning, sanding, and grinding weldments.
- Proficiency using spray guns for industrial painting applications.
- Capability to read and interpret precise units of measure related to coating thickness and mixing ratios.
- Familiarity with operating and working within a paint booth environment.
- Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively for cleaning and preparing steel weldments.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with industrial painting processes and workflows.
- Experience in working with steel weldments or other metal fabrications.
- Comfort working with industrial coatings and finishing materials.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure consistent, high-quality finishes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain spray guns and related finishing equipment.

WorkEnvironment
This position is based in an industrial facility focused on steel fabrication and finishing. You will work primarily in and around paint booths and designated finishing areas, using spray guns, hand tools, and other industrial equipment. The schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 2:30 AM, providing a four-day workweek on an evening shift. The environment involves working with coatings, solvents, and metal components, with appropriate safety procedures and protective equipment required.
Dress typically includes durable work clothing and suitable protective gear aligned with industrial painting operations.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
