Summary

The Process Technician is responsible for setting up and maintaining process controls on presses, molds and equipment to customer specifications. The Technician resolves manufacturing processes, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Additionally, the Technician maintains equipment, prevents failures, implements improvement plans, and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure quality through continuous improvement.

Job Duties
  • Optimize all machine processes by reducing scrap, cycle times, and mold change times.
  • Assist with launches of new programs by building a new process to ensure quality products and attend launch meetings prior to production start-up as needed.
  • Maintain and secure a controlled injection process using part weights, plastic data, and a systematic approach to optimize current running processes.
  • Direct setup for molds using efficient mold change systems and robotics.
  • Oversee in-house tooling and material evaluations to ensure optimum performance.
  • Describe system, components, and parts operating characteristics and malfunctions by writing technical reports.
  • Set up injection molds and perform start-up and shut-down of molding systems.
  • Verify system performance by testing the functioning of installed equipment.
  • Ensure equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Set up and maintain process controls of presses, molds, and equipment.
  • Use robotics and programming knowledge to handle parts without damage, including End of Arm setup and troubleshooting, and modify robot programs.
  • Apply knowledge of TPOs, ABS, nylons, and PC plastics.
  • Monitor production for accuracy and efficiency, working with quality inspectors to ensure part quality and performance.
  • Make minor electrical and mechanical repairs and adjustments to machines/tools, notifying supervisors for major service.
  • Own and analyze the injection molding process and equipment to reduce defects, improve overall processes, and reduce downtime.
  • Compile, store, and receive production data.
  • Complete all required paperwork.
  • Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
  • Have experience with hot runners, valve gate sequencing, gas assist, and insert molding.
  • Promote safety by abiding by all related policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic office skills such as Excel, Microsoft Word, and AS400 systems.
  • Safety and environmental training and experience.
  • Previous experience in an injection molding department or at least manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to work afternoons or night shift.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize work.
  • Highly motivated, service- and team-oriented, with attention to detail.
  • Troubleshooting ability is required.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated good internal customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
