Inside The Role
Responsible for the development and support of assembly lines and processes with a focus on continuous improvement that supports first pass yield, productivity, and material cost goals. Sound engineering skills with emphasis on product/part flow, ergonomics, safety, and error-proofing principles. Thorough knowledge of lean and six sigma principles and ability to quickly identify waste in manufacturing processes.

- Analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, other records, and reports in order to determine production requirements. Evaluate production requirements and outputs achieving daily rates in a linear fashion while monitoring product quality to achieve a superior quality reputation.
- Coach and hold team leaders accountable for standardized work instructions and quality adherence.
- Establish, evaluate, and communicate goals for each area. Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments and shifts, then coordinating the team leaders/teams to meet these requirements.
- Maintain discipline through enforcement of company policies and regulations.
- Demonstrate equipment operations, work and safety procedures to new employees or assign employees to experienced workers/team leaders for training.
- Identify/problem solve materials, products, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production schedules to meet production goals. Maintain employee performance records. Respond to HR on absenteeism topics and issue discipline accordingly.
- Monitor daily and weekly overtime ensuring policy compliance while meeting or exceeding productivity requirements. Hold employees accountable to productivity standards on a daily basis.
- Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
- Identify, improve, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, process capability, and product quality using Daimler TOS and Bosch BPS methodologies.
- Develop advanced manufacturing processes, conduct defect and failure analysis, engineering evaluations, statistical analysis and implement corrective actions to support process improvement efforts and ensure root-cause analysis translates into process improvements.
- Perform periodic process capability studies on key-value stream operations.
- Streamline manufacturing processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve first-pass yield, reduce or eliminate rework and scrap, while consistently improving material costs and productivity.
- Execute work assignments in accordance with company standards and quality systems.
- Ensure compliance and enforcement of company, safety, environmental, governmental policies, and regulations as they apply.
- Ability to read and create electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- High level of competence in the use of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Solid Edge for 3D modeling. Ability to apply GD&T and fulfill drafting and print control requirements.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
- Develop labor utilization standards, cost analysis systems, and capacities for value stream(s) of responsibility.
- Develop advanced remanufacturing techniques and processes to maximize material recovery and associated testing for validation of product/process. Understanding of all machining processes with a heavy concentration on in-process gaging and grinding machinery.
- Confer with vendors, staff, and management regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status along with new product introduction.
- Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
- Backup supervision coverage as needed.
- BS in Engineering (ME, EE, Mechatronics, MFG-E) or related field.
- 2 years of experience in an manufacturing environment
- Experience working in a team environment and ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management.
- Process engineering leadership and mentorship skills are a must.
- Broad knowledge of production planning processes
- Organizational skills and ability to effectively coach and mentor employees.
- Ability in calculating line capacity and machine utilization.
- Expertise in engineering principles to perform comprehensive line troubleshooting.
- Able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, management teams, and customers.
- Ability to prioritize tasks given, organize and summarize information communicated with stakeholders and provide potential impacts and alternatives.
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and commitment to operational excellence.
