The Solutions Designer III supports the development of intralogistics solutions, leading small and medium projects and contributing to large projects. This role focuses on following TGW’s solution design standards and understanding the impact of design parameters on whole design, tools, and processes, while actively contributing to tasks within high-complexity projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Defines main design parameters for small and medium projects by performing data analysis and translating customer needs into key business metrics (order volume per day, SKU range, and growth requirements).
- Identifies operator and machine rates for areas within customer warehouse through industry experience and Maynard Operation Sequence Technique (MOST) method.
- Determines the processes required within the warehouse to ensure fulfillment of the customer’s business case and agreed scope of supply.
- Completes costing activities and ensures solutions optimization for small and medium projects, defining target costs and maximizing cost competitiveness, and supports costing activities and solutions optimization for larger projects.
- Creates Material Flow Diagrams (MFDs) based on solution sizing, and Performance Line Diagrams (PLDs) based on the MFDs and layouts created by Applications Engineering, ensuring smooth flow and achievable system rates.
- Participates in the creation of the ROM proposal or detailed design proposal, ensuring that main design parameters are clearly specified in the proposal and confirmed by the customer.
- Prepares and delivers internal and external presentations about solutions.
- Partners with project team to develop effective selling strategies and provide proper coordination and engineering to develop proposals and land orders.
- Facilitates smooth project handover to post-sales team by ensuring customer requirements, design parameters, and complete solution concept are clearly documented and communicated.
- Mentors junior team members and acts as a technical project manager on projects.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
ExperienceAt least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in solutions design, preferably within a material handling environment.
TravelUp to 20% domestic travel and 1-2 weeks of international travel per year.
Skills & Abilities- Strong critical-thinking mindset: analytical, curious, skeptical, and willing to challenge decisions when necessary.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines with quality work product.
- Comfort working in multi-disciplinary and intercultural experts’ network.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge in AutoCAD and Sketch Up.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time.
- Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
- Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
