Operations Management, Production Manager
Laser North, a professional sheet metal and structural fabrication company, is hiring a Master Scheduler & Contract Coordinator to join their team in Baraga, Michigan.
This position will own the front end of the order lifecycle — from purchase order receipt, through contract and specification review, into scheduling and a clean hand-off to production. This is the person who closes the gaps at the start of every job, so that production receives complete, accurate, well-sequenced work and the commitments we acknowledge on our order confirmation are set up to be met, every time.
This is a fast-paced, high-ownership position for someone who thinks in systems. You won’t just work the schedule as it exists today; you’ll build the contract-review and scheduling structures that optimize throughput and scale as we grow. You’ll coordinate daily across sales, programming, purchasing, production, and quality — working in lockstep with the Production and QC teams who own execution once a job hits the floor.
The role reports directly to the Vice President and can involve juggling dozens of active purchase orders in a single day.
- $75,000 – $85,000 annual salary based on experience.
- Medical, dental and vision insurance.
- Discretionary, performance-based bonus.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Paid time off.
- Own each order from purchase order receipt through a clean, complete hand-off to production—making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
- Review incoming purchase orders and contracts for scope, specifications, pricing, terms, delivery dates, and special conditions—clearing what you can yourself and routing the rest to the right area of the business, then making sure every review is done before the job is scheduled.
- Build and manage the master production schedule
—sequencing work to protect the delivery dates we commit while keeping throughput high. - Coordinate with purchasing to confirm material and component availability before scheduling a job and committing a completion date, so our schedules reflect reality.
- Catch the job- and project-specific details that matter
—tolerances, finishes, certifications, customer-specific quality requirements—and make sure they reach everyone who touches the order. - Build the systems and structure that standardize how orders move through the shop, improve on-time delivery, and scale as we grow—in continuity with all other areas of operations.
- Work closely with our estimators, production, and quality control teams to make sure what we quoted is what we build, and what we promised is what gets shipped.
- Keep customers and internal teams informed on order status, changes, and commitments.
- Proven experience in manufacturing, preferably metal fabrication (laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, or similar), with a strong understanding of shop operations and production flow.
- Experience with Lean or continuous improvement and APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP certification is a plus.
- Experience with master scheduling, production planning, contract/order coordination, or similar work, ideally in a make-to-order or job-shop environment.
- Strong technical skills, including the ability to read manufacturing prints, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems, production‑capacity planning, and using real data to make scheduling decisions.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, purchasing, material planning, and how customer requirements move from contract review through production and shipment.
- Strong organization and judgment, with the ability to manage competing priorities, changing schedules, and delivery commitments.
- Clear communication and relationship‑building skills across customers, estimating, purchasing, production, and quality.
- A customer‑focused, continuous‑improvement mindset with a track record of improving processes and bringing structure to growing operations.
