The Shipping Supervisor owns day-to-day leadership of GRL's Shipping Department, ensuring finished goods move out the door accurately and on time in a fast-paced, just-in-time environment. This role blends hands-on shipping work with people leadership. This includes directing daily activities, developing the team, and leading the department's technology improvements. The ideal candidate brings business acumen, a continuous improvement mindset, and a level-headed approach to managing change, while being both a strong leader and team player.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management
  • Directs all Shipping Dept. personnel and daily activities, providing clear, hands-on leadership.
  • Leads by example, done by balancing the roles of team leader and team player.
  • Trains, coaches, and develops shipping team members; builds a flexible, cross-trained team.
  • Manages through change with a solutions-oriented approach in a fast-paced, just-in-time shipping environment.
  • Champions a continuous improvement mindset, identifying and implementing process efficiencies within the department.
  • Partners with Sales and Customer Service to ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and efficiently.
Shipping Operations
  • Performs product quality and quantity checks prior to shipment.
  • Manages the flow of product through the shipping process to meet daily ship deadlines.
  • Boxes, wraps, labels, and ships product per customer and carrier requirements.
  • Directs transportation activities and equipment needs for the Shipping Dept.
  • Reviews the daily ship list with the Director of Client Experience (or backup).
  • Maintains inventory of shipping supplies (cartons, skids, box tape) and coordinates Fed Ex/UPS software updates.
Technology & Continuous Improvement
  • Leads the Shipping Dept.'s technology improvements.
  • Partners with Systems/IT and Customer Experience to identify and implement technology that increases shipping accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintains UPS, Fed Ex, and other carrier manifest systems and software updates; monitors finished goods inventory.
Work Experience Requirements:
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and a growth mindset, with the ability to think beyond day-to-day tasks to department-level outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of material handling techniques that prevent product damage and deterioration.
  • Experience leading a team through technology adoption or process change preferred.
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Forklift certification (passes test upon hire and annual test thereafter).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple functions at once while maintaining strong organizational skills.
  • General computer skills, with the ability to learn and lead adoption of new shipping technology platforms (e.g., Send Flex).
  • Ability to work with and train a team; strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of an 8-hour shift or more.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs, with team-lift assistance for heavier loads.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for wrapping, labeling, and packaging tasks.
  • Works in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust typical of a shipping and production floor.
  • Required to follow all GRL safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE
  • Responsible for promoting and reinforcing a safety-first culture within the Shipping Dept.
