North Star Reach provides transformative, year-round programs free of charge for children with serious health challenges and their families. Situated on a 105-acre camp in Pinckney, Michigan, the organization offers fun and medically-safe experiences that foster joy, confidence, and connections. Equipped with a state-of-the-art health center and a dedicated team of medical professionals from top hospitals, along with passionate volunteers, North Star Reach ensures every camper's safety and well-being.
As a member of Serious Fun Children's Network, founded by Paul Newman, North Star Reach is part of a global network of camps serving children with severe illnesses.
This is a volunteer position for Nonprofit Board or Committee Members at North Star Reach. In this role, you will support the organization’s mission by providing strategic oversight, governance, and guidance while ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and vision. Responsibilities include attending board and/or committee meetings, active participation in decision-making processes, supporting fundraising initiatives, reviewing policies, and contributing to program development.
Members will collaborate closely with staff and volunteers to enhance the organization’s impact.
- Strong leadership, governance, and strategic planning skills
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal abilities
- Background or experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, or event planning
- Passion for serving children with serious health challenges and their families
- Professional expertise in human resources, financial, healthcare, education, or related fields is a plus
- Commitment to attending 2 in-person meetings a year (others by zoom) and actively participating in board or committee activities
- Prior board or committee experience, though not required, is highly desirable
