Coordinator for Children Catechesis and Family Events
Position
Description:
The Coordinator for Children Catechesis and Family Events is a part-time position (25-29 hours weekly based on quarterly events for 48 weeks) and reports to the Director of Evangelization. The Coordinator is responsible for maintaining resources on a weekly basis in the Parish's Faith Formation programs and Little Apostles Alcove along with tasks to support other Faith Formation and Sacrament Programs within the parish community.
Children's Faith Formation Responsibilities:
The particular responsibilities will include but not be exclusively limited to the following:
- Coordinate, supervise and develop the weekly Faith Formation program in the grades K-7 (expanded to grades 6 & 7 last year)
- Recruit, train and oversee volunteer catechists for k-7 program
- Elementary Faith Formation duties include the following: record attendance in Realm on a weekly basis, prep Catechist folders, prep service projects and other supplies and provide additional support on an as needed basis. Planning and weekly communication that goes to the parents and to the catechists, creating the syllabus and working with the catechists for lessons for each week's gathering, working with the Faith @ Home families to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of those families embracing their role as the primary catechists to their children, ordering supplies for the ELFF programs and Alcove quarterly and helping to recruit new volunteers to help with the FF programs.
- Participate in a key role for the summer VBS leadership team as the staff touchpoint person for VBS Coordinator and committee.
- Little Apostles' Alcove duties include the following: set up the Alcove on a weekly basis with children's bulletins, provide Liturgical Activities for families to pick up at the Alcove
The particular responsibilities will include but not be exclusively limited to the following:
- Plan resources and host Family Adoration & Fellowship Pizza Parties.
- Christmas Nativity Play for all second grade children (SPA school and Faith Formation) duties include the following: organize parent volunteers to host the play,schedule and organize volunteers to run the rehearsals, communicate with parents for children who will participate, assign parts for the children through drawing of names and be present at the nativity play or have key volunteers assigned to be present and lead the children.
- Plan and host Family Stations of the Cross with Fellowship during Lent.
- Sacrament Preparation duties include the following for First Eucharist/ First Reconciliation monitor baptism certificates for all children preparing for First Reconciliation/ First Eucharist, be present at First Reconciliation Catechesis evening, organize visiting priest meat on First Reconciliation Night and file First Eucharist documents for yearly records for the diocese
- Provide administrative support for the Confirmation Coordinator.
- Rites of Christian Initiation duties included the following RCIC support catechesis for families preparing children above the age of reason for sacraments, and RCI catechesis for special needs community members.
Additionally, this position provides logistical support for parish events to ensure that major parish gatherings and evangelization activities run smoothly and reflect the welcoming spirit of the parish
- Basic technical competency with audio-visual equipment and event setup preferred.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends is also expected (Alpha, parish retreats, etc), to be determined on a quarterly basis.
- Work as a team with Parish Staff. Listen to and serve parishioners, especially families in a hospitable and caring environment.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with SPA Faith Formation Families, volunteers, staff, clergy, and parishioners.
- Be an effective team member of the staff and work cooperatively with other staff members.
