Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) primarily provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department, Medical and Surgical Floors. The RN triages patients, obtains history and vital signs, assesses acuity, and initiates immediate care in life‑threatening situations. The RN performs complex and simple nursing procedures, assists physicians, and provides comfort to patients, families, and visitors. The RN dispenses discharge instructions and follows up.
The RN answers ambulance radios and orders pre‑medical center care. The RN works with sophisticated equipment and handles a diverse patient population in a stressful environment. The position requires travel among the Eastern Region and the Clare Center.
- (25%) Perform nursing assessments, intervene promptly, and participate in care planning.
- (25%) Regularly assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the plan of care and accepted standards of nursing practice.
- (20%) Process physician/provider orders accurately, completely, and timely; follow up regarding medication changes and order clarifications.
- (15%) Evaluate effectiveness of the treatment plan and suggest or facilitate changes to improve patient care.
- (15%) Actively participate in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information.
- ACLS:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 12 months of hire or transfer) - BLS:
Basic Life Support (within 3 months of hire or transfer) - PALS:
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS or ENPC required within one year of hire or transfer) - RN:
Registered Nurse (required) - TNCC:
Trauma Nurse Core Course or ATCN (within 12 months of hire or transfer) - Fingerprinting (required)
- TEAM ADVANCED:
Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (within 6 months of hire or transfer; employees on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification)
Associates Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Other Information- Uses physical assessment techniques (auscultation, percussion, palpation, observation) to identify patients’ physical problems and their care needs.
- Recognizes self‑limitations and seeks out appropriate resources.
- Possesses clinical competence in airway management, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, blood gas analysis, venipuncture, and physical assessment.
- Reassesses patient health status and identifies significant changes in conditions.
- Individualizes plan of care.
- Coordinates the prescribed plans with orders on the health care team.
- Communicates pertinent aspects of care to patient, family, or other health care workers.
- Initiates home health referrals when appropriate.
- Sets priorities and implements nursing measures which correlate with identified plan and standard of care.
- Recognizes change in patient’s condition and takes action to manage, reduce, or eliminate symptoms and promote comfort.
- Demonstrates respect for patient’s dignity and privacy.
- Documents nursing intervention and patient response.
- Maintains a safe patient environment and takes actions to prevent risk situations.
- Provides patient/family education, explains all procedures, utilizes available educational materials, and documents any instructions given to family.
- Has effective interpersonal skills with customers.
- Assists peers in patient care activities.
- Recognizes stress in others and uses positive coping techniques. Sets goals and prioritizes care to patients according to acuity.
- Is accountable in following medical center policy and procedures and work attendance.
- Participates in continuing education program, medical center computer‑based learning modules, and in‑services and skills day.

- Weekend RN positions require a minimum of two years of experience.
- Knowledge of nursing skills as normally acquired through 2 years’ experience working in a medical center or similar setting.
