Description:
A Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for performing the nursing process as a basis for patient care.
RNs provide direction and oversight to other licensed and non-licensed staff.
Registered Nurses show compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities through integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, and professional excellence.
The Registered Nurse must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm for the program and the organization.
Principal duties and responsibilities include assessing the care needs of persons served and developing a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
The Registered Nurse continually reassesses the plan of care according to the care needs of the persons served.
In collaboration with the physician, the RN provides and coordinates nursing care to individuals and groups.
The RN assists in teaching persons served and their families while providing milieu management.
Effective communication with and education of persons served and their families regarding discharge and aftercare planning is essential.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in both individual and group settings.
Documentation, reporting, and verification of all necessary information according to established policies and procedures are required.
The RN monitors for and reports to the physician any potential risk to the safety of persons served that could lead to an adverse outcome.
Creating a customer/client-friendly environment by following quality improvement standards and maintaining professionalism is crucial.
The Registered Nurse provides care in various clinical settings with diverse populations.
Identifying specific needs and implementing person-centered, compassionate care are key responsibilities.
The RN functions as a clinical leader, delegating and coordinating staff assignments while promoting staff development.
Responsible for the utilization and continued review of patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care, the RN gives input into process improvement.
Careful use of resources is promoted.
The RN may be responsible for training direct care staff and may be indirectly responsible for oversight of medication and physical health activities.
Scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations may also be part of the role.
The Registered Nurse role models the mission and values of the organization, presenting a professional image in appearance, attitudes, behaviors, time management, and communication skills.
Providing spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients is a vital function.
In community residential settings, the RN is required to support and promote a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach.
A commitment to demonstrating the model of care in hospital and residential areas is expected.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for upholding the healing ministry through relationships that honor integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and professional excellence.
Maintaining annual training and demonstrating competency in required programmatic training is a requirement.
The RN performs other duties or functions as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities may include functioning as a charge nurse.
