Job Overview

Starting Salary $85,654.

Days worked Monday‑Thursday 10‑hour shifts or Monday‑Friday 8‑hour shifts. On‑call duties. Primary location:
Grand Rapids, MI. Department:
Sub‑Acute Rehab, 5th floor.

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team, the Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising day‑to‑day nursing activities of the Sub‑Acute Rehab unit, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local standards, policies, and regulations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of one’s license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation.
  • Supervise all nursing care in the facility or units assigned, demonstrating the knowledge and clinical expertise required.
  • Review and implement all nursing procedures and systems relative to the unit(s).
  • Assess and evaluate the systems that facilitate the delivery of quality, evidence‑based patient care.
  • Provide direct supervision of the sub‑acute rehabilitation nursing department.
  • Supervise activities of all certified nursing assistants.
  • Provide direction and oversight to staff nurses.
  • Assess and evaluate the performance and competency of staff.
  • Provide one‑to‑one education to nursing staff as needed to improve level of care, documentation, and adherence to state and federal regulations, Mary Free Bed policies, and Standards of Behavior.
  • Lead and participate in staff meetings.
  • Evaluate, develop, mentor, coach, counsel, and discipline department staff in accordance with Mary Free Bed policies.
  • Monitor documentation daily, audit medication records, treatment records, and nurses’ notes to ensure accurate treatments and current resident status.
  • Conduct rounds several times per shift to evaluate the quality of care provided, identify changes in condition, and assist patients and staff as needed.
  • Participate in patient care conferences with interdisciplinary team; lead nursing elements of patient discharge planning, patient and family education, and post‑discharge care planning.
  • Ensure development and implementation of individualized care plans for all patients.
  • Evaluate patient responses to nursing interventions and select appropriate interventions to stabilize patient condition or prevent complications.
  • Assure regulatory compliance in all aspects of nursing care.
  • Assist Director of Nursing and participate in Quality Assurance and Process Improvement, including incident reporting and complete documentation of occurrences.
  • Analyze data, develop action plans, identify trends and outcomes, and present these plans to various committees.
  • Fulfill responsibilities in Nursing Leadership on‑call rotation as assigned.
  • Assist with and/or independently complete other duties as assigned under the direction of the Director of Nursing/Administrator.
  • Work beyond normal hours, on weekends, or during temporary positions as required, and may be subject to call‑back during emergency conditions or State/CMS survey activity.
  • Shift to other work periods when normally assigned shifts are insufficient.
