Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient

Position Overview

Under physician supervision, the Advanced Practice Provider – Inpatient is responsible for the comprehensive medical management of assigned inpatients in the hospital setting. The mid‑level provider is expected to exercise prudent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of care and seek appropriate collaboration as necessary. This role will be working full‑time day shifts in Grand Rapids locations (Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital and/or Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital) and will cover every third weekend.

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current BLS card for Health Professionals.
• Certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
• Inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• Licensed in the State of Michigan.

• Obtains comprehensive histories and physical examinations that reflect the acuity and presenting complaint of the patient, including daily rounding, admission and discharges with comprehensive progress notes.
• Coordinates and delivers comprehensive medical care in collaboration with attending physicians, including writing orders/prescriptions for standard medications, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies, and seeking consultation as needed for optimal patient outcomes, and managing daily changes in patient status that require more immediate resolution.
• Communicates in a timely and effective manner with supervising physician(s) as needed for continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes; maintains communication with interdisciplinary teams including office services, hospital support services, and additional physicians or physician teams that may also be caring for the patient.
• Acts as a resource and responds to calls, in‑house emergencies in a professional and timely manner.
• Serves as a patient advocate and provides patient education and/or referrals for optimal outcome and continuity of care.
• Works collaboratively with others across team lines by demonstrating accountability as a team member.
• Performs other tasks, procedures, and/or duties within scope of practice as assigned.
