Job Description

The Medical ICU is a 24‑bed unit on the 8th floor of the Meijer Heart Center within Butterworth Hospital. The unit cares for critically ill patients and specializes in a range of medically complex conditions, including diabetic keto acidosis, mechanical ventilation, bone‑marrow transplant, sepsis, pneumonia, and more.

West Michigan’s growth has increased demand for hospital and intensive‑care beds. The 8th floor of the Meijer Heart Center, once used for ambulatory offices and conference rooms, has been fully renovated to become the brand‑new MICU. Joining Corewell Health offers a unique experience in a newly established critical‑care unit.

About Meijer Heart Center

The heart and vascular systems require extraordinary care, beginning with specialists who expertly monitor cardiac status and perform procedures ranging from bypass to heart‑and‑lung transplant. Through research, innovative treatments, and best practices, our teams advance heart and vascular care for the patients we treat.

Scope of Work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional care. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and discharges patients while incorporating patient‑family centered principles. The RN works under the direction of the Nurse Leader in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN engages patients and families in goal setting, plans individualized care, develops and documents education strategies, and records learning outcomes in the health record.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required within 5 years of graduation
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months
  • 6+ months RN experience preferred
