About the Unit
Unit 6 South is a 22‑bed acuity‑adaptable unit at Butterworth Hospital capable of managing both non‑ICU and ICU status patients admitted with advanced cardiopulmonary care needs. It specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre‑ or post‑heart or lung transplant, intra‑aortic balloon pumps, and respiratory failure requiring Bi‑PAP, Hi‑Flu nasal cannula.
Scope of WorkActs as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to the healthcare team.
- Take vitals, check blood sugars, perform bed bathing, ambulate, provide wound care, catheterization, and act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Collect and report physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or provider.
- Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and in a timely manner.
Orientation to begin in a Nurse Tech role requires Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Orientation will continue for 8–12 weeks, requiring capacity to orient three days per week and continuing into September.
- Clinical orientation shifts are during the day shift, from 7:00AM to 7:30PM, alongside a preceptor within the unit.
- Regular night shifts begin after orientation weeks are completed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days.
- One year of patient care experience is preferred.
