Clinical Nurse Leader - Behavioral Health

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Service Director and in collaboration with the Clinical Service Leadership Team, the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is responsible and accountable for advancing the standard of nursing practice within three spheres of influence: patient, nurses and nursing practice, and organizations and systems. The CNL serves as a change agent, collaborates, consults, and conducts research to improve outcomes and provide exceptional experiences for patients, staff, and the community.

• Master’s degree in nursing with a clinical focus in the area of specialty (PhD or DNP preferred)
• Two years of concentrated clinical experience in the area of specialty
• RN license in the State of Michigan
• Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with an approved certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is required
• Certified Nursing Specialist (CNS) certification (acceptable certs:
  Adult Health, Pediatric Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, Public/Community Health Nursing, Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health, Child/Adolescent Psychiatric & Mental Health Nursing, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner)
• Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) certification within 6 months of hire (if applicable)

• Develops criteria for and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of practice within the spheres of influence: patient, nursing, and nursing practice, and organization and systems.
• Directly interacts with patients, families, and groups of patients to promote health or well‑being and improve quality of life.
• Consults with and seeks opportunities to advise nurses and other health care team members in the care of complex patients and families by assessing, interpreting, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
• Supports consultee in the process of problem‑solving based on specialized clinical expertise.
• Acts as a resource and role model for collaboration by mentoring nursing staff in their roles and mentoring members of the interdisciplinary health care team.
