Job Summary
Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service. May be required to provide on‑call coverage to support nursing services. Assists with development of policies, procedures, and processes in coordination with unit leaders to ensure the highest quality services are delivered to all customers.
Essential Functions- Assumes shift accountability for delivery of quality services by directly supervising assigned staff and collaborating across disciplines.
- Evaluates nursing care and completes rounds to confirm that patient care adheres to regulatory, accrediting, and professional practice standards, including the Michigan Public Health Code and federal/state regulations.
- Supports interdisciplinary relationships that foster improvements in care delivery, patient, staff, and physician satisfaction.
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports on environment, culture, and priorities that direct and support care delivery for the assigned area.
- Maintains a work environment that promotes retention, embraces diversity, and fosters culturally sensitive leadership.
- Provides a resource for staff to identify and address ethical issues, and formulates decisions guided by the ANA Code of Ethics.
- Advocates for privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient, staff, and organizational data.
- Collaborates with leadership to evaluate programs and services that support patient care delivery, including effective use of workforce, facilities, and equipment.
- Provides feedback to leadership on the implications of policies, procedures, and programs and recommends specific actions.
- Facilitates staff involvement in developing and reviewing policies, procedures, and guidelines based on evidence‑based practice, research findings, and Corewell Health quality outcomes.
- Assists leadership with budgeting to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with departmental goals.
- Manages standards for unit operations including admissions, transfers, and discharges, using appropriate staffing plans and patient placement strategies.
- Maintains a quality‑monitoring system to continuously measure quality, safety, and outcomes of nursing services.
- Assists in quality‑improvement monitoring at the department level and participates in interdisciplinary performance initiatives.
- Encourages an environment supportive of nursing research and evidence‑based, clinically effective patient outcomes.
- Supports a continuous learning environment that provides ongoing education and development opportunities for staff.
- Identifies trends and competencies in nursing practice and promotes effective communication and respect for diversity.
- Facilitates collaborative relationships among disciplines and departments.
- Collaborates with unit leaders to develop and execute a vision for change that mobilizes interdisciplinary and practice teams.
- Develops, maintains, and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers staff participation and shared decision‑making.
- Serves as a role model and mentor to staff, colleagues, and students.
- Ensures that patients, residents, families, visitors, customers, and employees are treated in accordance with Corewell Health’s core values and service standards.
- Demonstrates teamwork and integrity in all work activities.

- Responsible for patient, customer, and staff satisfaction outcomes and for developing actions that continually improve the service area.
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree.
- One year of relevant experience.
- Clinical experience in the specialty area.
- Preferred licensure:
Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Michigan. - Upon hire:
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (excluding hospice). - Driver’s license – State of Michigan.
- Additional:
Caring Circle Hospice license required upon hire.

- Work Schedule:
40 hours per week, variable schedule, Monday‑Friday with on‑call weekends.
