Provide essential assistance and comfort to patients as a vital member of the patient care support team, ensuring a high quality experience throughout their healthcare journey.

The Nurse Extern I (NE I) works under the supervision of a registered nurse, performing technical, multi‑skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. Responsibilities include executing tasks delegated by the registered nurse based on patient needs and the NE I’s skills, reporting any deviations from expected patient parameters, and carrying out role‑specific services that may vary across units or service lines.

Students hired as NE I perform duties equivalent to a patient care technician.

Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school of nursing, with successful passing of all required courses to remain in the program.
