SummaryNurse technicians support patient care under RN direction. They assist with clinical tasks, sanitation, transportation, and communication, all while upholding Mary Free Bed’s mission, vision and values.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of your license (or certification) and as required by law and regulation.
- Assist with data collection and report physiological, psychological, socio‑cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Obtain and record vital signs using appropriate equipment.
- Perform direct care tasks such as sterile intermittent catheterization, bowel programs, patient hygiene, and documentation of intake/out‑patient data.
- Act as a safety attendant under RN direction to maintain patient safety.
- Answer call lights promptly and respectfully.
- Document care in the electronic or written record in a timely manner.
- Provide input to the RN for individualized patient care plans.
- Transport patients safely and timely for diagnostic testing and therapy.
- Maintain patient areas and work equipment clean and safe; report malfunctions to Central Supply or Nursing Supervisor.
- Assist with quality data collection as directed by the RN, Nursing Supervisor, or Director of Nursing.
- Use all patient care equipment correctly per departmental policies.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.
- Treat patients, families, visitors, and coworkers with dignity, kindness, and respect.
- Maintain effective working relationships across the organization.
- Respond to call lights promptly and maintain consistent patient communication.
- Deliver culturally sensitive care while preserving patient dignity and confidentiality.
- Handle confidential information discreetly and comply with all hospital policies related to PHI.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service standards in all interactions.
- Stay informed of policy changes through staff meetings, bulletins, emails, newsletters, and the intranet.
- Complete all required training and competency assessments by assigned deadlines.
- Participate in annual performance evaluations and support new team members through orientation.
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and environmental policies.
- Document patient‑chargeable items accurately and avoid duplicate supplies.
- Arrive to work on time and stay through the shift unless on designated break.
- Seek work when none is apparent and avoid unnecessary overtime; communicate anticipated overtime in advance.
- Consistently promote teamwork, direct communication, and diligent handling of confidential information.
- Identify problems, seek solutions, and contribute to departmental satisfaction initiatives.
- High school graduate or GED required;
Certified Nursing Assistant preferred. - Valid BLS for Health Care Providers certification.
- Previous nursing technician or nursing assistant experience preferred.
- Understanding of medical technology and rehabilitation care is a plus.
- Stationary and occasional movement required.
- Operating equipment up to 10‑75 pounds as specified; chemical exposure may occur.
- Follow departmental safety, infection control, and ADA‑conforming practices.
