The Cardiology Unit is a 35-bed unit specializing in all aspects of cardiac care. The team provides comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients with both acute and chronic heart conditions. The unit also includes a 6-bed progressive care unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses.
Nurses on this unit have the opportunity to develop specialized cardiac knowledge while caring for a diverse patient population. Patient education is a key component of the care provided, helping patients achieve successful outcomes both during and after hospitalization.
Teamwork is at the heart of this unit's success. The collaborative environment and commitment to exceptional patient care make Cardiology a great place for nurses looking to grow their skills and make a meaningful impact.
Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by the following: utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation;
coordinating the care provided by other professionals; delegating selected acts, tasks or functions that fall within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants; providing selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient’s level of acuity and complexity of care required; and documenting and communicating during each tour of duty the patient’s response to care provided, consumption of resources and anticipated needs.
