Cardiac(Coronary) Cath Lab Nurse
The Cardiac(Coronary) Cath Lab unit at the Meijer Heart Center is a highly specialized procedural unit focusing on providing care to patients having a variety of cardiac conditions. The lab is a very fast-paced, dynamic unit, that quickly adapts to emergent situations. It consists of 5 procedure rooms, providing care for patients experiencing issues with heart failure; structural issues; peripheral circulatory issues;
and coronary issues such as chest pain, STEMI(ST elevated myocardial infarction, NSTEMI(Non-ST elevated myocardial infarction). Nurses are drawn to the cath lab, not only for the wide variety of procedures we perform, but also for the cutting edge procedures we provide to patients. We consistently have one of the highest volumes of STEMI patients in Michigan, caring for over 300 STEMI patients per year.
Our nurses become experts in caring for a large array of patients including, but not limited to, (patients with) Impellas; IABP's; swan-ganz catheters; ECMO; management of unstable/declining patients, including medication management. Nurses learn the unique skill of caring for a patient, including monitoring, assessing, sedating, while performing the tasks of the procedure.
