Seasonal mower/groundskeeper (part-time)

Position Title: Seasonal Mower/Groundskeeper Location: Holy Cross / Resurrection Cemetery Reports To: Sexton Supervises: None FLSA: Non-exempt Part-Time/Full Time: Part Time (25 hours per week)
Effective Date: Seasonal position (typically April–November)

All Seasonal Mowers work closely with Sexton. This role is responsible for maintaining the cemetery grounds to ensure a respectful, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors. This includes mowing lawns, trimming, and assisting with general landscaping tasks while upholding the dignity and sacred nature of a Catholic cemetery.

• Operate push and riding lawn mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment safely.
• Prune shrubs, trim trees, and perform other landscaping projects using hand tools or power tools.
• Remove leaves and other debris from graves, using leaf blowers and weed whackers.
• Maintain grass areas, pathways, and burial plots in a neat and orderly condition.
• Assist with seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, watering, and planting.
• Assist with seasonal items such as the removal of flowers and the turning down of vases in the fall.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment (e.g., cleaning, refueling).
• Ensure work is completed respectfully, maintaining the dignity of the cemetery grounds. Follow all safety guidelines and cemetery policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or directed by the Managing Director, Operations Manager, or Sexton.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to operate lawn care equipment safely and efficiently.
• Must be fluent in English.
• Must be able to work in ALL types of weather.
• Be respectful of all people and their family regardless of race, creed, or religion.
• Attention to detail and respect for the sacred nature of the cemetery.
• Flexible availability includes some Saturdays.
• Reliable transportation and punctuality.
• Previous landscaping or groundskeeping experience preferred but not required.
• Employment in and by the Diocese of Grand Rapids is substantially different from secular employment. Diocesan employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, laws of the Catholic Church or the Diocese of Grand Rapids, such that it can embarrass the Diocese of Grand Rapids or give rise to scandal.
  
  This position does not require that the employee be an active, participating Roman Catholic. It is expected that all employees will respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. • The work is completed at the cemetery in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
