Supplier Quality Technician
Location:
Grand Rapids, MI – On‑Site (5 days)
Support Trane’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations as part of the Quality team.
Key Responsibilities- Execute Component Risk Assessment procedure for all New PPAP tasks (SPDCR, RTS, NDP, Relocation, VAVE projects) to define PPAP level requested to suppliers.
- Notify suppliers and internal peers of PPAP level for parts and send PPAP package (PSW complete file) to supplier.
- Handle all PPAP tasks in Windchill and evaluate PPAPs according to engineering drawings and Trane specifications.
- Conduct dimensional, metallurgical, chemical analysis, hardness, and functional tests (Hipot, continuity, polarity, burst, etc.).
- Execute Fit, Form and Function for components, obtain approval signatures from Manufacturing Engineers, Product Engineers, Production Supervisors, and SQE.
- Notify PPAP status to suppliers and project members; complete P‑24 in Windchill according to criteria.
- Identify critical features in new drawings and initiate monthly CP/CPK reports to suppliers.
- Perform technical quality assurance inspections and use results to improve production processes and standards.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving; interface with engineering and production departments to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and develop rework/re‑repair instructions.
- Maintain clean, accurate data and documentation of all non‑conforming material detected in production.
- Perform, follow up, train and maintain the Non‑conformance Management (NCM) process.
- Inspect and audit parts/units: first‑piece, in‑process and final inspection.
- Attend and update MDI teams and complete other duties as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a technical field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality areas.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with quality measurement tools (dimensional and electrical equipment).
- Knowledge of CMM and GDT is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
Hourly Base Pay: $27.71. Compensation may vary based on seniority, merit, location, education, experience, travel and union designation.
