Position Summary

The SBU Field Quality Engineer will influence business results by leading, facilitating, and reporting customer and field related quality activities for each of our SBU’s platforms. The role improves communication between customers/field and our manufacturing/engineering teams, oversees quality aspects for each equipment platform, prioritizes improvement programs, and coordinates efforts across Technical Support, Field, Customer Interaction, and Field Technician teams.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead field quality activities across assigned products to reduce the cost of quality expense.
  • Provide data and prioritization of improvement opportunities to Product Growth Teams and track improvement accountability.
  • Conduct site visits, gather information, and respond to customers to remedy issues; perform customer investigations to understand root causes and calculate benefits for quality improvements.
  • Establish communication strategies with field service technicians to clarify real issues requiring manufacturing or engineering changes.
  • Define a project pipeline with prioritized actions to deliver maximum customer benefit and hold teams accountable for agreed quality improvements.
  • Develop a deep understanding of equipment performance, critical to quality elements, and provide functional insights that drive customer experience.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis across functions to enable corrections improving component reliability and product performance.
  • Identify training and application gaps that cause poor customer experience.
  • Communicate core messaging about quality improvement efforts and evolving culture across the business.
  • Serve as conduit for key selling situations that require information about quality management systems and processes impacting the customer buying process.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Field Quality function using tools such as Gemba, management reviews, audits, warranty data, and traceability.
  • Review, challenge, and simplify existing quality-driven test systems and procedures to ensure products meet intended use and customer expectations.
  • Forecast and manage key metrics to align with plant financials and product growth glide paths.
  • Facilitate supplier reliability improvements for new product and project introduction launch phases.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional certification (CPM, APICS, Six Sigma, CQM, PE, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality engineering experience in design, engineering, or manufacturing with a strong foundation in APQP, DFMEA, and PPAP.
  • Strong leadership and applied knowledge in advanced quality planning and improvement tools.
  • Experience in quality management, operations, lean manufacturing, and visual management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; mentor, team player with professional customer and supplier interaction capability.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Proficiency in information technology systems used in Quality Management Systems.
