Quality Technician – 1st Shift
This 1st shift Quality Technician role runs from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and focuses on monitoring and testing automotive underbody and thermoformed plastic components in a Tier 1 manufacturing environment. The position ensures that all products and facility processes comply with IATF, ISO 9001, and OEM customer-specific requirements by performing detailed inspections, managing gauges and fixtures, maintaining quality documentation, and supporting audits and problem-solving activities.
Responsibilities- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections on automotive underbody and thermoformed plastic parts to verify conformance to technical blueprints and structural specifications.
- Test materials, processes, and finished components using appropriate quality measurement tools to ensure they meet customer and regulatory standards.
- Manage, clean, and monitor check fixtures and customer gauges, including both variable and attribute gauges, to maintain accuracy and reliability.
- Assist with calibration cycles for plant testing equipment to ensure all measurement devices remain within specified tolerances.
- Create, maintain, and log quality documentation such as metric reports, inspection sheets, and compliance records in an accurate and timely manner.
- Review and approve supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions to confirm that supplied components meet required specifications.
- Lead root-cause analysis investigations for production non-conformances and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Segregate suspect or non-conforming material in the Material Review Board (MRB) area and execute appropriate containment strategies.
- Participate in internal Quality Management System (QMS) layered audits to verify adherence to IATF and ISO 9001 standards.
- Support customer surveillance audits by providing documentation, data, and process explanations as needed.
- Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on production parts, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify critical dimensions.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes based on inspection data and audit findings.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Quality Technician in a manufacturing environment, with automotive experience considered a strong plus.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience using micrometers, calipers, and gauges for precision measurement.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Practical experience in quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection within a production setting.
- Ability to perform visual inspections and quality checks using appropriate inspection techniques and tools.
- Experience working with quality measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other metrology equipment.
- Familiarity with IATF and ISO 9001 quality management standards and their application in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to conduct and document inspections, including first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
- Competence in reviewing and understanding Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation.
- Experience conducting or supporting root-cause analysis and implementing containment and corrective actions for non-conformances.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when recording inspection results and quality data.
- Effective communication skills to work with cross-functional teams in production and quality.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) is a plus.
- Exposure to automotive Tier 1 manufacturing environments is beneficial.
- Familiarity with AIAG core quality tools and industry-standard quality practices.
- Experience participating in internal QMS layered audits and customer surveillance audits.
- Comfort working with thermoformed plastics and extrusion-related processes.
- Ability to manage multiple inspection tasks and documentation requirements in a fast-paced production setting.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to take initiative in identifying and resolving quality issues.
