Food Service Director and Building Principal EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
High school diploma or equivalent
SUMMARY:
The Cafeteria Manager supervises and coordinates activities of Cafeteria workers. This person assists with the preparation and serving of meals; performs general duties related to food preparation, serving and cleaning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises and evaluates cafeteria workers and develops schedules.
- Supervises and coordinates activities of workers who prepare, cook, serve food, clean premises, collect money and wash dishware.
- Collaboratively work with building administration to accommodate schedules, schedule changes and resolve personnel problems.
- Trains staff as it relates to food preparation procedures and safety guidelines.
- Orders weekly food and supplies from approved food vendors.
- Properly organizes storerooms and storage areas.
- Maintain accurate food service records.
- Ensures proper accountability of inventory.
- Understands and follows all guidelines on safety, food production, food specification and ordering.
- Manages the preparation of nutritious meals in accordance with federal, state and local standards.
- Follows approved recipes to be in compliance with school, state and federal regulations.
- Helps with food preparation.
- Serves food at appropriate times.
- Maintains food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Maintains and completes required forms and records accurately.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Follow attendance, punctuality, and other qualities of an appropriate work ethic.
- Ensure adherence to proper safety standards.
- Model and maintain high ethical standards.
- Keeps the supervisor informed of potential problems or student concerns.
- Use effective, positive interpersonal communication skills to work as an effective team member.
- Participate in training programs offered to increase skills and knowledge.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrate support for the school corporation and its goals and priorities.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to safely operate food service equipment.
- Ability to push, carry and lift heavy objects.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk and bend for long hours.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Cafeteria staff have to conduct training required by the USDA Federal school lunch program.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to hot equipment (ovens, steamers, dishwashers) and sharp utensils
- Standing, walking, and moving around the kitchen for extended periods of time
- Lifting and carrying food items and supplies up to 30 pounds.
