Fulton Street Market (FSM), established in 1922, is a vibrant, community-driven market located in the Midtown Neighborhood of Grand Rapids. We offer locally grown produce, meats, eggs, plants, handmade arts, and crafts, serving as a gathering space for residents and visitors. FSM operates during the Main Market Season from May through October on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, as well as a Second Season Market from November through April on Saturdays.
FSM is operated by Fulton Street Farmers Market Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department.

The Market Manager is responsible for the smooth day-to-day operations of Fulton Street Market, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for vendors, customers, and community partners. This role serves as the primary on-site point of contact, supporting vendors, assisting patrons, enforcing market policies, and managing essential operational systems such as vendor applications, attendance tracking, volunteer coordination, and day‑of communications.
The Market Manager also supports our food access programs, community events, and communications, while contributing to the Market’s long‑term vision and strategic growth.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, problem‑solving, and community engagement, and who is passionate about agriculture, local businesses, and improving food access.
This is a full‑time, year‑round position. During the Main Season (May–October), in‑person availability is required on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, Thursdays from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM, and Sundays as needed. During the Second Season (November–April), in‑person availability is required on Wednesdays from 1:00–5:00 PM and Saturdays from 7:00 AM–2:00 PM. Additional hours are available with flexibility.
Core Responsibilities1. Market Operations
- Oversee daily market operations, including setup, breakdown, and on‑site coordination.
- Serve as the primary on‑site contact, addressing and communicating emergent vendor and customer needs to staff.
- Ensure vendors and customers adhere to market policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Effectively document any violations.
- Constructively deescalate conflict when violations of market policies occur.
- Create weekly Market day layouts with consideration to vendor needs and product variety.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming market environment, including routine upkeep of shared spaces and restrooms. This includes but is not limited to sweeping, cleaning restrooms, picking up trash, ensuring that market tables are clean, and shoveling snow.
- Staff the market desk as needed, operating POS systems for EBT and credit card transactions, selling merchandise, and handling cash.
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assist patrons in navigating the market.
- Coordinate market field trips, clearly communicate expectations to visiting groups, and ensure that you are available to welcome each class.
- Collect daily stall fees and handle all payments accurately and responsibly.
