Retail Pharmacy Clerk

Summary

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, operates a computerized cash register to record department items sold. Reconciles cash and register documentation at the end of the day. Performs other department duties as assigned. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills to greet, interact and communicate with customers, patients and colleagues.
• Ability to read, write, understand instructions and communicate with customers.
• Ability to perform non‑complex arithmetic and calculations including receiving cash and providing change.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
• Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks while coping with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to stand for up to 80% of work time.
• Presents and operates in a professional manner that commands respect, reflects a high level of competency, and encourages collegiality.

Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows‑based computer systems, including email, e‑learning, intranet, and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. When lifting greater than 35 pounds, colleagues must use assistive devices.

• Greets customers, patients, and colleagues with courtesy; demonstrates excellent customer service.
• Organizes cashier area, procures currency bags, fills cash register and credit card machines.
• Accurately operates a computerized cash register, computes charges, applies appropriate discounts, matches items to the department key, and processes cash, checks, and credit cards.
• Assumes accountability for cash at the end of each shift, verifying register tapes, posting adjustments, assisting with balancing cash drawers, and complying with policies, procedures, practices and regulations.
• Ensures cash drawer has appropriate level of cash and obtains additional change as necessary.
• Maintains food product inventory, orders from approved vendors, monitors inventory levels to maximize turnover and minimize spoilage and waste, and maintains adequate inventory controls.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Trains new staff to perform pharmacy clerk responsibilities.
• Participates in the annual inventory process and other inventories as needed.
• Utilizes downtime to assist department operations.
• Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships; addresses conflicts constructively, offers solutions, and participates in resolution.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information; discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in private places.

• Assumes responsibility for safe job performance, reports hazards immediately, and promotes personal and coworker safety.
