Security Officer (Nights) – Night Shift (United States of America)

EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Make eye contact and pleasantly greet each patient, visitor, and staff member; maintain a pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor to create favorable impressions.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment; provide protective service and response for protection of the hospital’s people and property.
- Assist with the day‑to‑day operation of the Department by protecting patients, visitors, and employees who are in danger or have been threatened and intervene when appropriate to reduce or defuse potentially violent situations.
- Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to detect or deter criminal activity and unsafe conditions. Respond to emergency situations, call for service and other requests for assistance. Provide support for safe and efficient parking and transportation services.
- Standby as requested in certain situations to prevent disturbed or menacing patients, visitors or anyone else from being a danger to themselves or others.
- Monitor and maintain closed circuit TV/video surveillance, two‑way radio systems, and other life safety systems.
- Coordinate safety and security procedures during emergencies by responding to burglary, fire, and other alarms and taking appropriate action. Create safety awareness among guests and staff and conduct preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct.
- Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Relay incoming, outgoing, and inter‑departmental calls, take and relay messages, and respond to telephone queries with a smile and in a warm efficient way to facilitate public and hospital business.
- Respond quickly and accurately to emergency and non‑emergency alarms including fires, codes, and tornadoes (or other disasters); receive initial reports, alert outside agencies for their response, page instructions to all hospital staff, and stand‑by to provide further communications so that appropriate emergency responses may begin. Clear and reset alarm systems when applicable.
- Make appropriate overhead pages on a timely basis with clear enunciation to communicate messages to people outside of telephone access.
- Transport patients, visitors, or other guests to different areas of the campus by wheelchair or escorting them as needed.
- Protect all hospital guest and staff confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Maintain a clean, neat work environment including a professional appearance, the security vehicle, and all surrounding areas within the security office as described by Mary Free Bed’s Dress Code Policy.
- Adhere to hospital policies.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of the facility, including services, departments, clinics, peripheral services, conference rooms and other pertinent information.
- Complete incident reports that are detailed and strictly factual.
- Function in an environment with possible exposure to blood‑borne pathogens or other potentially infectious/hazardous materials, and possible exposure to high or low temperatures as both inside and outside conditions indicate.
- Effectively present information one‑on‑one and in small group situations to guests, clients, and associates.
- Use communication devices (phones, radios, etc.) in a clear, concise, and professional manner to meet and exceed internal and external customer service expectations.
Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors while encouraging, coaching, and monitoring the same in team members. Consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co‑workers and handle confidential information discretely and sensitively.
