Crime Scene Unit Team Leader

The Crime Scene Unit Team Leader is a full-time, on-site position based in Grand Rapids, MI. This role oversees daily operations of crime scene response, including assigning tasks, coordinating schedules, and ensuring proper evidence collection and preservation. The Team Leader directs and participates in crime scene processing such as photography, measurements, documentation, and recovery of physical evidence, following established procedures and legal standards.

Responsibilities include training and mentoring unit members, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The role also involves collaboration with investigators, patrol personnel, prosecutors, and other agencies, as well as preparing reports and providing testimony in court as needed.

• Demonstrated Team Leadership and Supervisory Skills to guide, train, and evaluate unit members.
• Experience in Law Enforcement and Physical Security to ensure lawful, safe, and effective crime scene operations.
• Background in Retail Loss Prevention or comparable investigative work is beneficial for evidence recognition and analysis.
• Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in documentation and evidence handling.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including standing for extended periods and handling sensitive material.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing, briefings, and court testimony.
• Familiarity with forensic techniques, crime scene photography, and evidence management systems is preferred.
• Relevant law enforcement training or certification; associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, forensic science, or a related field is advantageous.
• Capacity to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as operational needs require.
