Position Summary

The heavy equipment mechanic will inspect, maintain, and repair specialized utility construction equipment, including tensioners, pullers, cranes, and hydraulic systems. This role supports both shop operations and field crews, ensuring that all equipment is safe, operational, and ready for deployment on high-voltage transmission projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and major repairs on utility line construction equipment, vehicles, and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in the shop and in the field.
  • Support line crews during wire pulls, structure setting, and other field operations by operating and maintaining specialized equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and parts inventories.
  • Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and company quality standards.
  • Respond to emergency mechanical needs during storm restoration and critical outages.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel, or hydraulic repair.
  • Knowledge of utility construction equipment, including stringing gear and bucket/digger trucks.
  • Valid CDL Class A license with air brake endorsement (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, repair manuals, and technical drawings.
  • Commitment to safe work practices in all conditions.
Preferred
  • Previous experience supporting electric transmission projects.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
  • Manufacturer-specific training for hydraulic and mechanical systems.
