Machinist

Nature of Work

The purpose of this job is to perform skilled machinist work fabricating, modifying and repairing specialty equipment, providing support to water field ops, sewer repair, and water service worker staff, and maintaining the 1900 Oak Industrial Drive building (not cleaning) inside and out year round.

• Designs, fabricates and repairs equipment using metal lathes, mills, forges, welders, drill presses, sanders and grinders
• Writes specifications for special equipment orders and maintains adequate inventory of equipment supplies and materials
• Performs preventative maintenance on both shop and field equipment and builds and repairs tools
• Troubleshoots and maintains minor repairs on plumbing and HVAC; performs building maintenance and carpentry work
• Assists outside contractors on site with overhead door repairs, HVAC and boiler repairs, elevator maintenance, fire protection system maintenance, electrical and emergency generator maintenance
• Services portable hydrant boilers used to thaw frozen hydrants
• Mows, fertilizes, waters, trims shrubs, removes weeds and runs snow plow in the winter on City owned property
• Makes minor repairs to all equipment, fabricates truck and equipment accessories, and repairs hydraulic hose and air hose
• Reports and tracks maintenance on facility repairs; tracks annual maintenance performed by contractors
• Shuttles equipment and fuel to jobsites
• Trains field staff on hydrant boiler operation to obtain required license
• Performs related work as required

• High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
• At least three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment, tools, and devices using metal lathes, welding equipment, and similar equipment
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

• Boiler Engineer license
• Commercial Driver’s license (CDL)
• Welding certification
