Utility Locate Technician

Utility Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including electric power lines, gas lines, and fiber optic lines (minimal). This position ensures compliance with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods. The technician will be dispatched to locate and verify for utility customers and may work independently or in a team under an assigned supervisor.

The job requires focus, skill, and the use of machinery and/or tools.

In order to obtain employment, candidates must complete a background check with no violations within the last five years. They must also pass a DOT drug test.

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • State-issue driver’s license
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs
  • Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours per day
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 5 years)
  • Pass a DOT drug test
Responsibilities
  • Locate underground facilities using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
  • Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
  • Perform regular, overtime, and holiday locates, including emergency/on-call work as necessary.
  • Complete all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating with customers, co-employees, and third parties.
  • Communicate with management team, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage-free environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of necessary technology and tools.
  • Work collaboratively in a supervised team environment.
