Position Overview
Diesel Technician Trainee at Ryder in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pay $22.00/hr while training to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician. Employees receive weekly pay and excellent benefits.

- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Zero to one year mechanical experience with diesel engines (preferred)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Proficiency in English written and verbal communication

- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Beginner knowledge of machines, tools, shop systems (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- DOT safety regulated position; safety sensitive
- Obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass Ryder drug test
- Pass DOT physical
- Pass Ryder road test
- Pass background check including last 3 years
- Move heavy‑duty vehicles in/out of yard, wash bay, service shop or rental shop
- Wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment
- Fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles per shop safety policies
- Record fuel activity, maintain fuel and DEF inventories
- Use handheld devices to identify customers and services
- Perform multi‑point inspection on inbound units per company policy
- Check tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, washing windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units, and report issues
- Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform minor facility maintenance as assigned
- Attend and complete Technician Training Development Program, including hands‑on and online training; tasks include Service Island training, Multi‑point inspection, Vehicle fueling, Washing, Environmental safety, Safe driving, 6S standards, Technician I and II training modules
- Perform other duties as assigned
