The Building Access & Security Technician is responsible for the field-based installation,

maintenance, programming, repair, and operation of the College's physical security and

access control systems. Working under the direction of the Building Access and

Security Specialist, this position supports campus safety through the management of

mechanical and electronic locking systems, key records, credentials, and associated

security technologies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Installs, repairs, maintains, and replaces card readers, electric strikes, and mechanical locks
  • Cut new or replacement keys for authorized personnel following campus procedures using key cutting equipment and software. Maintain accurate records of all keys and locks.
  • Maintain and administer the S2 system to perform the following:
  • Electronic reset of door modules and nodes to resolve technical issues
  • Create varying door access programs for departments across campus
  • Perform daily unlock and lock functions of all doors
  • Cross reference door access with key access when requests are received
  • Work with IT on program related S2 issues.
  • Review S2 automated reports daily for issues with doors or readers.
  • Troubleshoot mercury panels using a laptop to perform hard resets at the panels. Confirm operation using the technology to activate nodes and check for proper response.
  • Ensure building floor plans are regularly monitored and updated to maintain accuracy.
  • Assign door numbers to floor plans as needed.
  • Maintain and administer the Atrium system to perform the following:
  • Assign access levels for all Staff, Faculty, and Student Raider Cards.
  • Check door access information for any door and at any location.
  • Check parking access information for any Raider Card.
  • Create access levels in Atrium to allow S2 readers to communicate correctly between programs. Confirm successful data integration with both programs to ensure proper system operations.
  • Audit Raider Card access reports for errors.
  • Grant access using the Atrium and S2 access systems.
  • Represent the Lock Shop during design, construction, renovation, and capital projects by reviewing hardware schedules, coordinating security requirements, and verifying installation of locking and access control systems.
  • Provide assistance and support to GRCC Police by:
  • Creating weekend event schedules for doors.
  • Creating weekly class schedules that fall outside of the normal building operating hours.
  • Providing support to the Building Access & Security Specialist through the authorized opening and closing of doors
  • Support in the administration of Campus lockdowns for inclement weather & other security reasons.
  • Perform soft resets of doors as a first step in troubleshooting a door that is not functioning properly.
  • Support the management and maintenance of the Keystone Web key system for college security by keeping accurate documentation of hardware changes and new lock installations in each building, and repairing, and maintaining cylinders for locks in the master key system
  • SFIC
    - Small format interchangeable 7 pin core system:
  • Support the management and maintenance Management of multiple keyways, one system, use of Keystone Web and Excel for building audits as well as extensive use of the Keystone database management software
  • Pin SFIC cores.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive security information, key records, access credentials, and security system data.
  • Manage security, intrusion, and documentation of fire panel credentialing.
