Class Advisor
The Class Advisor serves as a mentor, advocate, and liaison for an assigned class of students. The advisor promotes student growth, academic success, positive behavior, school engagement, and effective communication between students, parents, teachers, and school administration. The advisor helps foster a positive class culture and supports students in achieving educational and personal goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary advisor and advocate for an assigned group of students.
- Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
- Provide guidance and support to students regarding academic, social, and personal development.
- Conduct regular advisory or homeroom meetings.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and school activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address student needs.
- Assist students in setting and achieving academic and personal goals.
- Promote school policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Encourage student participation in school programs, activities, and events.
- Coordinate class activities, meetings, fundraisers, and special projects as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records related to student advisement responsibilities.
- Support conflict resolution and promote positive peer relationships.
- Refer students to appropriate support services when needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-sponsored activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of adolescent development and educational practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proficiency in school information systems and communication platforms.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform duties in a classroom and school environment.
- Ability to attend meetings, events, and activities both during and outside regular school hours as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
Working Conditions:
- School-based environment.
- Frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- May require occasional evening or weekend attendance at school functions and activities.
