The Engineer 2 Graduate will provide professional civil engineering services for the Department of Natural Resources under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Responsibilities include conducting bridge safety inspections, preparing feasibility studies, design and construction documents, performing bridge design and analysis, and providing construction inspection and administrative services. The role may also support related civil infrastructure projects involving roads, trails, drainage and site improvements.

• Perform, assist with, and coordinate bridge inspections statewide using the department’s bridge asset management database and applicable inspection procedures, including travel as required.
• Prepare and develop feasibility studies, construction plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents for bridge and related civil projects to meet engineering standards and facilitate bidding and award.
• Develop and administer RFPs and consultant contracts, including scope development, consultant selection, technical review, coordination and contract management.
• Provide engineering support, construction inspection, and administration services during construction to ensure projects are completed according to contract documents, standards, schedule and objectives.
• Perform special engineering assignments to address emergencies, unusual field conditions or unique project needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an ABET‑accredited program and two years of post‑graduation civil engineering experience.
• OR Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) from an accredited institution and one year of civil engineering experience.
• Engineer‑in‑Training or Fundamentals of Engineering certification, or ability to obtain certification within the first 12 months.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for model‑based design and plan production.
• Knowledge and experience in civil engineering project design and management.
• Working knowledge in at least one of the following: bridge design, bridge inspection, bridge construction, or bridge hydraulics.

• Certified MnDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
• Experience with construction observation of bridge projects
• Experience with bridge inspection and asset management applications
• Construction Stormwater certifications such as SWPPP Designer or SWPPP Site Management
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for public construction projects
• Certification as a MNDOT Bridge Construction Inspector

• Unrestricted Class D driver’s license with a clear driving record.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements and work in the environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
