Summary
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for designing new products and enhancing existing ones by translating Sales and Marketing functional specifications into robust engineering solutions. This role applies core engineering principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate and optimize product performance.
EducationBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
ExperienceMinimum of 3 years of related work experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Solid Works 3‑D design software or equivalent and experience performing Finite Element Analysis
- Able to apply engineering principles to develop component and simple system designs to meet specifications
- Familiar with various molding technologies including investment casting, die casting, injection molding and sand casting
- Able to develop an accurate project plan
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Work with cross‑functional teams to develop new products and conduct design reviews
- Product engineering activities: troubleshooting performance issues, root‑cause analysis, and product design enhancements
- Project planning and implementation using MS Project or similar tools
- Use Solid Works 3‑D software to build solid models and create cross‑sectional layouts; perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and apply GD&T
- Develop product test plans, identify instrumentation and measurements required, and perform testing to validate new product designs
- Must understand fundamental manufacturing processes for wrought and cast, gray and ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and plastics
- Perform analysis of design and performance data resulting from R&D testing
- Provide technical assistance to customers, suppliers, and internal groups:
Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Field Service, Purchasing, and Quality Control - Assure integrity of issued drawings, Bills of Material, and applicable engineering specifications such as ASTM, AISI, ANSI B31.1, API‑675, and ANSI/HI 6.6
- Obtain approvals as required with respect to certifying and regulatory agencies (UL, CSA, CE, NSF, ATEX)
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem‑solving situations; apply critical reasoning to making decisions
- Coach lower‑level product design engineers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Limited travel may be required.
Physical RequirementsThe work is predominantly sedentary and requires minimal or negligible physical exertion. The employee is normally seated; however, the nature of the work allows for periods of standing or walking ength to lift or carry files weighing up to ten (10) pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screen, and ability to hear and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
WorkEnvironment
Works majority of the day in a climate‑controlled environment, except for occasionally performing work on the manufacturing floor, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature. The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards requiring the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Pay Range$97,000.00 - $ annually
Bonus EligibleThis position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
