Summary  Wapiti Gravel Suppliers is hiring for a Mainline Hoe Operator for the 2026 construction season. The Mainline Hoe Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the construction Hoe, using mechanical controls to operate the boom, arm and bucket to excavate and level the ground throughout multiple phases of the road construction process.

Key Responsibilities   Operate the Hoe and other heavy equipment safely.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
Conduct pre‑operational checks and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary.
Collaborate with ground personnel to excavate and install pipe according to blueprints.
Ensure trenches are excavated to the proper depth and grade.
Position water, storm and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.
Follow ground crew directions on craning, gravel placement and grading.
Cut grade efficiently to maintain production schedule.
Carry out trench work meeting OH&S requirements.
Operate Hoe on public roadways with situational awareness.
Understand issues involving ground disturbance.
Ensure correct rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc., and safe working procedures during material lowering.
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance for smooth operation.
Train employees in safe and efficient Hoe operation.
Other related duties as required.
Promote and enforce the company’s safety program, encouraging all employees, sub‑contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
Work safely to avoid injury to self or others.
Qualifications and Requirements   High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Class 5 driver’s license required.
Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in water and sewer or road construction.
2‑3 years of experience operating a Mainline Hoe required.
Working Conditions   Weather‑dependent schedule from Monday to Saturday, up to 12 hours per day; overtime paid per local employment standards.
Work outdoors, potentially in inclement weather, heat, humidity, dust and asphalt exposure.
Physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
