Compensation: $30 – $34/ hour (full-time / permanent)
On-call premium and overtime paid for rotating coverage.

Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)

Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson.

Responsible for…

The multi-talented Carpenter is skilled in the following ways:

Refined skills with various in-home renovation repairs/restoration vs new build

Rough and trim and finish

Installation, doors, trim, moldings, and baseboards

Cabinetry

Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts

Drywall repairs: boarding and mudding

Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim)

Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing

Insulation and vapour barrier installation

Being awesome, in general!

What you bring

The Multi-Skilled Tradesperson brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

5+ years experience interior carpentry repairs

Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers

Ability to work well alone or in a team

Experience working in construction environments

Tools and the skills to use them

Strong people and communication skills

Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do

Interest in cross training and willingness to help out all team members regardless if the job is related to carpentry duties

Ability to work later than scheduled when needed: including travelling out of town

A safety mindset

Valid drivers license

Ability to pass a criminal record check

Ability to communicate in English

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

JM Red Seal Carpentry ticket

Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)

IICRC certification (restoration focus)

WHMIS

First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
