Job Title
To enhance child development and school readiness and success through parent education, this includes:
- Increasing parent knowledge of early childhood development and improving parenting practices.
- Providing early detection of developmental delays and health issues.
- Preventing child abuse and neglect.
Qualifications:
Certification and/or 4-year degree in one of the following areas:
- Early Childhood Education
- Early Childhood Special Education
- Elementary Education
- Vocational Home Economics or Family/Consumer Science
- Child Development
- Or related field
OR
2-year associates degree or certificate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing
OR
Sixty (60) college hours and two (2) years experience working with young children and their parents
Applicant must meet one of the above stated qualifications in addition to the following:
- Demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents
- Neat appearance
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Ability to work with diverse population conducting home visits
- Must have a reliable vehicle and valid drivers' license
Preferred Qualification:
Certified in Parents as Teacher Foundational Curriculum
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide home visits to families with young children, providing child development information and appropriate child rearing practices.
- Individualize presentations of information so that each family can use and understand them.
- Effectively plan, present or facilitate information so that each family can use and understand them.
- Arrange and facilitate parent-child activities at group meetings.
- Be trained in administration and interpretation of early childhood screening instruments.
- Share results of screening in a sensitive manner and provide appropriate referrals.
- Recognize behavior and/or development of children deviating from the expected norms.
- Work more intensely with at-risk families, teen parents and developmentally delayed children.
- Build community awareness about PAT and its benefits to families.
- Research materials and community resources needed to address parental needs, concerns and/or questions.
- Maintain clear, well-organized and comprehensive records.
- Assume responsibility for reading, attending workshops, seminars, etc., for furthering own understanding of child development, neuroscience research, and child rearing issues and practices.
- Recruit and maintain family enrollment in the PAT program.
- Compile, create, publish and distribute program newsletter
- Complete required professional development hours to maintain Parent Educator certification.
- Other related duties as assigned by the District Coordinator.
