Interventionist
The job of the Interventionist is performed for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program, assisting teachers and administrators by providing prevention and intervention services to students with behavioral needs; coordinating the Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) for at-risk youth; and proactively addressing students' academic, social, and emotional needs.
Performance responsibilities include:
- Building relationships with students; fostering student-to-student community connections and student-to-teacher relationships.
- Assisting teachers in managing students whose behavior is out of control to maintain a calm school environment and ensure student success.
- Communicating with a variety of personnel (e.g., students, parents, teachers, administration, other staff) to express concerns, resolve issues, and develop plans for student success.
- Intervening with students exhibiting chronic behavioral issues to de-escalate crises, process incidents, teach alternative behaviors, and support return to learning.
- Providing individual and group support to students and parents to prevent, address, and resolve behavioral issues.
- Actively participating in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
- Collecting data, recording anecdotal progress notes, and maintaining behavior charting data as required.
- Observing students and identifying needed services to plan and deliver prevention activities.
- Utilizing district-approved behavior management and de-escalation techniques (e.g., talking through problems, teaching coping skills, applying CPI strategies).
- Performing physical assistance and intervention, when appropriate, to ensure student and staff safety in accordance with CPI guidelines.
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
Terms of employment:
Full-time — 188 days (plus 2 additional contract days for training in coordination with Counselors).
