Position Summary

The Grandview Police Department (GVPD) is now offering higher salary ranges and lateral entry up to $78,000 to dedicated individuals wanting to join a progressive and professional team. GVPD provides a unique opportunity for officers to have a significant impact on community safety and quality of life. The Department operates on 12-hour shifts with three-day weekends twice a month. This results in approximately 15 to 16 workdays a month.

Salary and Benefits
  • Starting Base Salary: MO Post Class A starting at $26.71 per hour ($55,556 annually); lateral entry starting up to $78,000 annually;
    Police Academy Sponsorship $24.28 hourly
  • Top Pay: $43.63 per hour ($90,750 annually)
  • Lateral Entry: Up to $78,000 for qualified applicants
  • Career Development Program: Includes 8% step to PO II and 12% step to Master PO
  • Uniforms and Equipment: Provided with a uniform cleaning contract

About Grandview Police Department

Located in Grandview, Missouri, a first‑tier suburb of the Kansas City, MO metropolitan area, GVPD serves a population of 26,000 residents. The department boasts 74 full‑time employees, including 58 sworn officers, committed to law enforcement and community service.

Job Responsibilities
  • Patrol Duties: Conduct regular patrols to maintain order, prevent crime, and enforce laws
  • Traffic Enforcement: Monitor traffic to ensure compliance with traffic laws, issue citations, and investigate accidents
  • Criminal Investigations: Conduct investigations into criminal activities, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports
  • Community Policing: Engage with community members to build trust, address concerns, and promote a positive relationship between the police and the public
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls, provide assistance, and take necessary actions to ensure public safety
  • Arrest and Detention: Arrest suspects, execute warrants, and ensure the secure detention of individuals in custody
  • Report Writing: Prepare detailed and accurate reports on incidents, arrests, and investigations
  • Court Testimony: Provide testimony in court regarding investigations, arrests, and other law enforcement activities
  • Special Assignments: Participate in specialized units:
    Traffic unit, Motorcycle Assignment, S.W.A.T. Team, Investigations, Jackson County Drug Task Force Undercover Unit, School Resource Officer, D.A.R.E. Assignment, K‑9 unit, and more
Equipment and Resources
  • Patrol Rifles, Tactical Shotguns, and Glock Handgun
  • Low‑mileage vehicles equipped with laptops, WiFi, in‑car digital video, and electronic ticketing
  • A jail facility featuring computerized booking and Live Scan fingerprinting technology
Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, additional higher education is preferred. No felony or domestic violence convictions. Valid driver’s license; minimum age 21; looking for someone with good character, independent judgment in emergencies, strong writing and communication skills, and ability to work with a diverse public.

Physical Requirements

Binocular vision correctable to 20/30, able to recognize forced whisper at 5 feet with correction, ability to successfully complete job specific physical skills test.
