Overview
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for monitoring customer orders from placement through procurement, molding, and assembly. The primary goal is to ship orders on time, in full, while optimizing manufacturing operations and inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities- Scheduling and Planning (55%) – Analyze production specifications and plant capacity data to determine manufacturing processes and tool requirements. Plan and schedule workflow for each department and operation according to established sequences and lead times, adjust schedules to meet unforeseen conditions, and monitor all orders to completion according to ship dates.
- Procurement and Purchasing (25%) – Prepare and enter purchase orders to support the production schedule and inventory targets, and coordinate with vendors to expedite component parts and raw materials.
- Inventory Control (20%) – Monitor weekly usage figures, revise safety stock and minimum inventory levels, and analyze inventory to maintain minimal levels while meeting customer demand.
- Maintain accurate order records, update schedules, and communicate status changes to department management and vendors.
- Comply with all company work rules and policies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (preferred). Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Four years of related experience or training in manufacturing, production planning, or procurement.
- Strong understanding of supply‑chain principles and materials management.
- Familiarity with inventory control, purchasing processes, and production scheduling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to work on call 24/7 to answer inquiries or questions.
- Supply chain management, forecasting, negotiation, and ERP proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to write reports and present information.
- Mathematical competence: add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Reasoning and problem‑solving: apply common sense, handle multivariable problems, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
- Safety and environmental awareness: follow company safety rules, environmental policy (ISO
14001), and quality policy (ISO
9001).
Regularly required to sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift or move up to 10pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and focus adjustment.
Work EnvironmentWork in a general office environment and a plastics manufacturing setting with moderate to quiet noise, moving machinery, and applicable hazards. Some travel may be necessary.
