Mold Technician
Pay Rate - $27/hr.+ (1st shift)
Job Description
The Mold Technician repairs, maintains, and improves complex multi-cavity plastic injection molds equipped with various hot runner systems. This role analyzes mold condition for preventive maintenance, performs precision machining, and fabricates or repairs mold components, fixtures, and gauges to support reliable, high-quality production in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain complex multi-cavity injection molds with various types of hot runner systems to ensure consistent and reliable operation.
- Analyze mold condition for preventive maintenance using check sheets, quality assurance reports, pull shots, and detailed visual inspections.
- Operate machine tools and related equipment to fabricate, modify, and repair mold components, fixtures, and gauges according to specifications and standards.
- Troubleshoot mold and hot runner issues during setup and production, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Perform precision toolmaking and machining tasks to construct, alter, or repair complicated tools, molds, and gauges.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure accurate repair and maintenance activities.
- Document maintenance, repairs, and modifications performed on molds and associated tooling for future reference and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and optimize mold performance.
- Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area within the manufacturing facility.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a mold technician, toolmaker, or in a similar role within plastics injection molding.
- Hands-on experience with plastics injection molding processes and injection mold operation.
- Strong background in tool and die work, including construction, alteration, and repair of complicated tools, molds, and gauges.
- Ability to operate machining equipment and machine tools used for fabricating and repairing mold components, fixtures, and gauges.
- Practical knowledge of hot runner systems and their maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve mold and tooling issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance documentation.
- Attention to detail and precision in machining, fitting, and assembly of mold components.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Approximately four years of on-the-job experience or completion of an apprenticeship, plus additional experience in the construction, alteration, or repair of complicated tools, molds, and gauges to meet standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or formal training in tool and die, mold making, or a related trade.
- Experience working as a toolmaker in a plastics injection molding environment.
- Familiarity with quality assurance reports and using pull shots and visual inspections for preventive maintenance decisions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on plastics injection molding. You will work around injection molding machines, complex multi-cavity molds, hot runner systems, and various machine tools used for machining and repair work. The role primarily supports evening and overnight operations, with most opportunities on third shift. Typical schedules include second shift (approximately 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.–11:30 p.m.) and third shift (approximately 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. or 11:30 p.m.–7:30 a.m.).
The environment is hands-on and production-oriented, requiring adherence to safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and compliance with standard manufacturing practices.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $72800.00/yr. They offer health vision and dental benefits.
