Throwers will be mostly collecting paper lawn waste bags or bundles, throwing them in rear load packer garbage trucks. Some areas have cans to be dumped, any toters are placed on a toter tipper. You must be able to lift 50-70 pounds steadily all day and work in all types of weather. Very physical position. Must be able to get on and off the step on back of vehicle quickly, collect items and go again.
In between areas you may be riding in truck. There is no set time off – you are done for the day when routes are completed.
Helpers are responsible for working as part of a team with the driver to service the collection, hauling and disposal of residential yard waste or some recycling.
All Helpers need to clock in between 6:10 am and 6:15 am. Helpers will be out on route until routes are done, Monday through Friday, in all types of weather. Normally 40 hours per week but overtime during the busy season. Pay 1½ times regular rate for over-40 hours. Good attendance is a must. Being on time is a must. No call‑in, no show‑in, no job.
You must have reliable transportation to get to work daily.
Full‑time work Monday through Friday, receive pay the following Friday via Direct Deposit. (You will work some Saturdays due to holidays). Pay is weekly. Reviews at 30, 90, 180, 365 days. Raises based on performance and attendance.
Responsibilities- Move yard waste from the curb to the rear load garbage truck.
- Perform duties safely at all times. No earbuds, Beats or phones while working from back of truck.
- Keep collection areas clean by picking up any refuse that has fallen out of the container or truck. Brooms and shovels are on each truck.
- Follow the direction of the driver and assist the driver as needed.
- Wear required safety gear at all times and maintain a neat, professional appearance. Uniform shirts, jackets, or coats must be worn at all times. Uniforms are issued after 90 days.
- Spot violations and notify the driver of these violations.
- Be on time to work daily and ready to work.
Heavy lifting:
Ability to perform heavy physically demanding work, including lifting, kneeling, touching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting. Ability to lift and carry up to 50–60 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift. May need to enter/exit the truck repeatedly and/or ride on the back of the vehicle.
Heavy work in varying outdoor weather conditions, including extremely cold temperatures, wind, snow, ice, extremely hot temperatures, and rain. Potential exposure to hazardous materials: exhaust fumes, waste fumes, hydraulic fluids, odors, etc. Rain gear is available for purchase. Uniform shirts, jackets, and Hi‑Vis vests are provided unless you opt out. Work is typically solo on the truck; some routes require 2 throwers.
Bring a lot of water, lunch, and appropriate footwear. Boots that cover the ankles are required. No steel toes unless you are comfortable with them. Jeans or canvas pants are acceptable. Wear shirts that do not contain profanity or inappropriate wording.
Personal AttributesBe honest, trustworthy, respectful to customers, the public, and the driver. Demonstrate a sound work ethic and be present daily. Safety vests must be worn until you receive uniform shirts after 90 days. Be flexible and work well with others in a team environment.
NOTEThrowers must bring all required clothing, gloves, boots, water, food, cold weather gear, and rain gear. Rain, snow, cold, or heat is not an excuse not to show up. You must present a valid, non‑expired State Driver’s License, and either a Social Security card or birth certificate before being hired.
